WWW. EUROCHESS.HU
SCHOOL CHESS AND MATERIALS COLLECTION

The target audience of the site is people who want to learn chess - either alone or with management - or just chess loving athletes.

The Eurochess website contains three distinct material parts. A leveled chess school, a large collection of materials and a lot of skill development test.

1. The chess set is designed for four levels of play (beginner, intermediate, intermediate, advanced) and consists of three thematically separable parts (school, training, test).

2. The collection is a very large package, with a total of over ten million games, approx. two million warships and a significant number of analyzed games are available. This will include 11 thematic opening books with three and a half million games.

3. The third is a five-level skill development and player test suite (beginner, intermediate, middle, advanced, master) with more than two million warheads and questions.

All registered readers have a 'OWN ROOM' page where you can optionally add / remove any chess page of the website.

About our homepage
About our homepage

Our target readers are those who want to learn chess - on their own or with some guidance - and those who teach or simply love chess.

Eurochess.hu homepage contains three, well-separated material blocks. One multilevel chess school, one large material collection and a huge number of skill-developing tests. The chess school is adapted to four levels (beginner, elementary, intermediate and advanced), and it consists of three thematically separated material blocks (school, training, test).

It is a vast collection, an eight and a half million database, which contains more than ten million selected games including a great number of analyzed games and about two million game positions.

Here you can find eleven thematic opening books, containing about three and a half million games.

The third one is a skill-developing, playful test and training page divided into five levels (beginner, elementary, intermediate, advanced, master level) with more than two million game positions and questions.

The homepage is completed by a module called 'Own Room', which is given to each registered reader. It will be introduced below.

Operation

Our homepage is working in a subscription form. Every simple, unregistered reader has an access to every page, but he can reach only one game from each game collection and at the tests the program will quit after the third test question without evaluation. Registration is free for everybody, with giving a user name, a password, a name and an email address. After the registration the reader has an access to three games from each game collection and at the tests the program will quit after the fifth question, without evaluation, too.

Full access requires subscription which the reader can pay to the PayPal account of the homepage, on the SUBSCRIPTION page. Subscription can be made for one year or for three months. A year's subscription is only 6000 HUF, or the same sum in other currency. The subscription for three months is 2000 HUF, or the same sum in other currency.

If you have some problems with PayPal Payment, please contact us in any form (email, mobile phone, etc.) or on the SETTINGS page - which can be reached after registration or logging in - where there is a possibility for sending messages.

Some advice for mobile and tablet users

The measure of chessboards for playing games is maximum 400 pixels, which can go down to 360 pixels but not lower. At the test pages it can be even 250, for example at the two-chessboard tests.

Do not wait wonders from small-size (3-4 inches) equipment. The screen should display an 8X8 squares' chessboard, the coordinates, 32 chess pieces, the operating buttons and the chess game. Their each square, chess piece and each move needs an operating button, not mentioning the analyzing texts and the audio player.

On bigger tablets or smartphones (5 inches or more) you can use well everything, from the tests to the chess school.

At the huge database and the large collections we advise to use the searching engines. We have in mind not only the ECO or name search but the inner search engines at the game collections.

Here you can find in almost every case three thousand items' opening lists, which cannot be easily used with mobile phones. So we should write the names, the ECO or even the move (in English writing), and we can open the games with the OK button. If the OK button does not react, there is no game suitable for the search. The search engine is sensitive for small and BLOCK CAPITAL letters. At the Text search we can search for expressions in the opening lists, at the Moves we can search in the games.

We should be patient with the ECO and name search. It takes time to find the suitable games from the 3 to 500 thousand game collections.

About the chess school
About the chess school

The material of the chess school has been compiled for 4 different levels, built on each other. The first one starts up from zero, it's the level of the beginners under 1000 rating. The second one is the basic level for players under 1400 rating. The third is the intermediate level for players under 1800 rating, the fourth is the advanced level for players under 2100 rating, this one is under construction.

The material is divided for three parts in each level. The first part deals with chess theory, coloured by audiovisual elements. The second part contains 'Find the solution' materials, adapted to the player's level. The third part develops mental skills with the help of texts and chessboard tests, adapted to the player's level as well.

Assessment tests from beginners to master level
Assessment tests from beginners to master level

In this module you will find five different levels, from beginners to master level, set for the usual rating limits (1000, 1400, 1800, and 2100). At the master level there is the theoretical number of 3000. Chess problems are given at random order out of the given level problems, and when you enter, you will have the first chess problem immediately.

Solution:
Solution is always the strongest, the best continuation. For example, if there is mate in one and mate in two, the mate in two is not the solution to the problem. If you can win a rook or a pawn, which leads to a winning position, too, but it lasts longer, only the winning of the rook is the solution, the other one is not.

Evaluation:
Each step of the puzzle is pointing to a red or black star rating, depending on whether a good or bad solution is made. The first, the key step is 4 points, the other one points 1 point (red star). The wrong solution will be the same number of black stars. Help request (the Go! button) is a black star, at the key step four black stars. By clicking on the 'SOLUTION' button, four black stars are the rewards. The program evaluates the solution between 0 and 100 (percentage) based on good and faulty steps (blue number). There is no time limit, but takes account of the elapsed time when calculating the value number. Each puzzle has a time limit within which a plus 10 points will be added, with minus 20 points being exceeded. Timeline: + 15sec for good solution, + 5sec for bad solution. For one-step puzzles this is 1 minute.

Rating:
After the registration, everybody starts from 1000 points and everyone has only one rating, independently of the level. When you change levels, the program will approximately adjust your rating to the level, depending on your score, after solving a couple of problems. At the same time, it will add a percentage which refers to the result at the given level. The normal value should be around 100 %. If it is too high or too low after solving some problems, it is advisable change levels into the suitable direction.

Have a nice game and a useful pastime: the authors.

Collections, game collections
Collections, game collections

Collections, game collections is a complex, multifunctional module of the homepage. You can find mixed chess material here. It starts from the large database which contains about 8.5 million games, and continues with the series of one or two-package game collections and thematic position collections compiled by different points of views. You can find here those parts of 'Find the solution'-type thematic collections which we couldn't put into the levels of 'Chess school' and the 'Master tests' chapter of test pages which can be reached from 'Tests' page as well. We put here the eleven opening books.

The module is completed by two search pages where we can search for the players' names and the openings in the databases. Each database contains from 50 to 500 thousand games. We should be patient during the search because it can take a couple of seconds depending on the measure of database and the number of findings.

When we open any set of games we will find an inner search engine where we can search in the given database. We can choose two possibilities, Text or Moves. Choosing the Text we can search in the list and text (for name and the opening code), choosing the Moves we can search in the games (for concrete moves). We should be careful in writing the sign of taking the same way as it is seen in the game. With the help of the OK button we can open the suitable games. If the OK button doesn't react, there is no game adequate to the search. When reaching the end of database, the engine restarts the search. The search engine is sensitive for small and BLOCK CAPITAL letters.

Skill development and player tests
Skill development and player tests

Tests are divided into five groups according to the levels, adapted to the usual rating limits (1000, 1400, 1800, 2100 and the theoretical 3000 at the master level). Each chess school level has one test. Questions and test positions are given at random order. Number of test positions and questions is about 2 million.

Answering:

At the written tests you should click on the right answer, at the chessboard tests you should click on the boards or the buttons under the boards. At the double-board tests you have four choices: right or left board, 'Both' or 'Neither' button.

Time and evaluation:

You should answer questions in a definite time which depends on the level and the test (15 to 300 seconds). Exceeding the time limit is evaluated as a wrong answer. After each solution the program counts the score of your answer according to its correctness and the time used, and adds it to your rating. The new details appear on the screen together with the new test position. The number of questions is not limited, but you can always interrupt the game with the PAUSE button, and the program evaluates and displays your result.

Rating:

After the registration everybody starts from 1000 points and everybody has only one rating, independently from the level. Changing levels after solving several problems, the program adapts the rating to the level given, depending on the score. At the same time, it gives a percentage to the rating which refers to the result, related to the given level. The normal value should be around 100%. If it is too high or too low after solving a number of problems, it is advisable change levels into the suitable direction.

Access:

1000-1400-1800-2100 levels can be accessed by subscribers only. Master level (3000) is available for everyone.

Have a nice game and useful pastime: the authors.

Opening Books
Opening Books

Opening books, in other words the site of opening trees. Now it contains 3.5 million games in 11 thematic books.

Downloadable chess materials
Downloadable chess materials

The downloadable materials were divided into three game levels, complete with a mixed selection. Materials are in pdf or pgn format, mostly compressed (zip).

There are three types of access. The first types are free to download, marked as FREE. The second types are subject to registration, marked as REG. The third types are subject to a fee, marked as PAY.

The reader's own page
The reader's own page

Each registered reader is automatically given an own page called 'OWN ROOM', where he can put or remove any site of the homepage of chess thematic with the icons and on the right of titles.

The reader can collect all the material he likes and often or presently uses on one page from the innumerable pages of the Eurochess. We highly recommend it to trainers and chess tutors. They can easily compile here the material for their students for practice or revision.

There is a possibility for fulfilling individual requests on the 'CHESSPAGE REQUEST' page, where the registered reader can ask for games of players, openings and other collections, which only he can see. We will send him the game collection in pgn form - if asked - to his valid e-mail address. The maximum limit of requested games is three thousand, which we will handle flexibly. The price of the fulfilment of the request is 5 Euros, which should only be paid after the positive acknowledgement of the request.

The requested materials have a separate page where they can be reached even if they cannot be seen in the OWN ROOM or the owner's full access is expired.
